"Until you have given up your self to [God] you will not have a real self..."--CS Lewis
You know, I believe that Jesus alluded to this principle:
"And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" Mark 8:34-36
It is in surrendering one's life to the light of Christ, via the Holy Spirit, that the image of God endowed upon us all is able to begin to shine through our lives. Until then, the image is marred by our sin and selfishness. As such, we spend our lives trying to clothe ourselves with the cheap imitations of our self-righteousness and self-sufficiency. May the Lord give us the grace to surrender our lives to Him so that we might see Him and find ourselves in the clothing of His righteousness and love.
